>>43789763I’d say that part of the problem is that when they finally started to characterize her beyond indifference, they presented this weird concept of people placing the expectation that she liked Pokémon because of her dad’s profession within a universe that, up until now, revolved around Pokémon, to the degree that even if you aren’t a trainer, different professions make use of Pokémon in some way shape or form. So her conflict, while relatable, feels out of place in the Pokémon universe. It’s then only made worse by the fact that, in spite of her having a start that allows real character growth as she discovers what she wants in life, they have her presented vas a side character who barely appears making that her character growth is just sprinkled here and there in glorified cameos that show her changing bit by bit
