I think GF should just accept the hole they dug themselves into and add a dating component to the next mainline game. It's just the next logical step with the progressive waifuzation of the games. Make it entirely optional like pokemon Amie so people don't bitch and whine too much.

They want the benefits of dating-adjacent characteristics (Cute characters with cute interactions, crush subtext, massive amounts of viral fanart) without the potential drawbacks (icky romance between underage characters in a game for 10 year olds).
But I think the game would benefit from them being more honest about this aspect of the game.
