This, it's not even consistent. Like, SOMETIMES it's this weird energy thing, sometimes their teeth glow and they actually bite, fuck, sometimes they just bite and there's no glowy shit at all.

I guess the rationale is 'if it's just a bite, it's not very flashy and we can't have a big explosion', because every fucking move in this show has to explode.

Personally, I've always liked the idea that all pokemon perform an attack differently than another might. For example for a Pokemon using Aura Sphere, it might be a ball of aura, but for a Pokemon like Lucario or Mega Lucario or a Pokemon with powerful Aura Abilities its a beam instead. Or how a Raboot kicks rocks to trigger moves like an ember or Flame Burst.
Other cool things would be a dance-based pokemon dancing to trigger moves rather than the normal method.

Another cool set was watching Pokemon like Greninja use moves like Aerial Ace where its just very flashy DBZ escque beatings.

It's about the power of the attack, a mon taking serious damage from a move that just outright contacts and could realistically be performed by any animal is too violent for kids. So bites can be animated as actual bites if they're glancing blows or what have you, but if it's meant to be a serious hit it's going to be an explosion.

They alternate depending on the script and the size of the thing they're trying to bite. If it's something too big to fit in their mouths, or another attack (like how you're in your pic, Lycanroc is biting through Stone Edge), they use the energy version.

Most pokemon moves don't make a ton of sense anyway, but some of the examples you gave just don't really jive with how moves are presented in the games.

Greninja doesn't have any claws, so it makes sense. Ash's Greninja used Cut the same way.

It's only weird when Weavile, a Pokemon that does have claws, also uses a sword, but at the same time, that would look too similar to Shadow Claw.

Yeah, but thats' because in the games they all share the same animation. In an anime setting or more dynamic video game I expect there to be unique idiosyncrasies associated with each pokemon.

I get what you're saying. However, using Raboot as an example, "kicking" the ember towards an enemy smacks of a physical attack. I don't disagree with you, but I think the pokemon system of attacks is fucky at best.

Because prior to that they didnt show off biting moves much because it meant physical contact and harm, then after they found out they can do with all biting moves with what they did with the elemental fang moves and just have it be a projection of energy. Notice that Steelix in the anime never made contact when it used crunch, why? cause it would bite shit in half if going by real logic.
