anyone know how eggs are generated rng seed wise in this game? in sun/moon, everything was predetermined when you put the parents in, is swsh the same or is it based on time similar to soft resets and wild encounters?

if its by time, my new overdone method will be simply to collect eggs as often as possible to hit those shiny frames easier, just fill up the entire pc, and hope i got it once or more, ive only done it once but getting 3 scorbunny vs the 1 i normally get in this amount of eggs is encouraging

Finally got a shiny dracovish and with strong jaw it only took ~13,300 fossil revivals. Honestly this has got to be my second worst shiny hunt, worst being a shiny Froakie in OR that took ~16,000 and to add insult to injury I had the shiny charm and was doing masuda method.

I didn't find a single shiny until around the 13,300ish mark. I do know I could have used an ability capsule but getting the correct ability the first time is a huge time saver. The total time it took for me to find the dracovish has been a total 27 days.

That is quite amazing especially since the fossils are full odds. Longest shiny hunt I had was a month and a half but it was due to having less time to sit and hatch (was a college student at the time) and extremely poor luck despite increasing the odds as much as possible.

On a happier note though the fastest shinies I obtained was a random encounter after walking into grass less than a minute from turning the game on in OR. Fastest hatched shiny was 7 eggs. Most shiny in a single day was 3 obtained.

My past 5 or so shiny hunts have been incredibly lucky.
I'm about to start shiny hunting for a Pancham and luckily I don't need to go for its HA.
I never realized how fucking COOL Pangoro's shiny was though.

Well I didn't have any plans of hunting in the main game but I've spent a shitload of time doing just that anyway. So no plans to do so technically, but I'll probably do it anyway.

No idea. Gotta be at least 25-30 now. I'm pretty proud of the amount of shinies I've had from this game.

Since Sword & Shield only. The initial reduced dex has been a godsend, because I never ever get to fill the entire dex, especially in games like gen 6 which I ended up quitting half way through in.
This is the first time I've had the shiny charm so it makes the shiny hunting process much less painful.

Last Gen TID played into seed determination, which is why swap-breeding was a thing (seed was essentially fixed). This Gen, seed's determined every time you put a pokémon/pair in the daycare and every time you turn the game on.

My hunt is going rather slow. I am trying to breed for a shiny Vulpix but haven't had any luck so far, about ~900 eggs in I think.

When I first got the shiny charm, I decided to go for a shiny using the Masuda method and chose to go for Dhelmise. I was hunting for that piece of shit anchor for like 3-4 days, and that was my first real attempt at shiny hunting too. I was legit saying to myself during that hunt that I'd never shiny hunt again if that was the norm, but after I did get it and take a break for a few days, I shiny hunted other things and got them relatively quickly. Now, like 20+ shinies in, I've still yet to have a worse hunt than that Dhelmise, every hunt after that has been 'reasonable' IMO. So yeah you're probably doing everything right I assume, you're just getting shit luck which can happen unfortunately.

Less than 1000 for all 4, somehow?? Maybe less than 1200 at most. I toss all the blaze buns now so it's hard to keep track. Also not including all the failed attempts before Home gave us Libero and I had to start over from there.

Also if anyone wants a perfect-IV'd libero scorbun (for breeding/battling), let me know! I have a dozen of these that I probably won't ever use. Feel free to just throw wondertrade garbage at me in return, if you want. I don't need anything.

depends, pretty slow for kanga, gligar or pupitar (though i expect that, my gen 5 luck is atrocious), pretty decent for 2% togepi, and eh for CCirno in badgequest touhoumon , 3 phases but not the target (actually can you even go for a target in a badgequest? i've heard it be both yes and no).

no. the new legends will most likely be locked and g-slowpoke line will be in more games like with the other regional forms

Ehhhh I'm still not decided on if it's worth it. Worse stats across the board + probably won't have the nature I want. I know those can all be fixed but mints are expensive and using a ton of bottlecaps is kinda meh.
Still though, I'll keep at it since I'm already 150 encounters in. Kinda hoping I get lucky and get a shiny + a mark but that won't happen. At least I'll get the square shiny variant though.

I'm still on the fence with this. Big mons make it a lot easier to run into only them. Copperajah was a lot more enjoyable than tiny Wooloo for example. Abilities like Flash Fire and Magnet Pull are also helpful we need more like them.

synchronize works 100% of the time in gen 8, and as you keep catching/fainting pokemon you'll encounter more brilliant pokemon that have perfect IVs and egg moves

Since gen 4 at least, but conducted my first hunt in gen 2 while not knowing exactly what shinies were. I caught a shiny Koffing in Crystal, and reset over the file because I couldn't transfer my mons anywhere, so I figured if I just hung around where I found my Koffing last time, she'd come back. I didn't really understand how rare she was since I was 7, but I knew she was different and I wanted her back. I've resetted about 3 files in Crystal that had shinies due to the inability to transfer since then, so I'm glad for VC Crystal so I can keep my shinies. I just really like playing through Crystal.

I forgot to mention I'm doing an authentic Sinistea hunt as well. I'm about 6 phases in so far, only one of my shinies are doubles (Shiinotic), and one of them is a forgery Sinistea. I've got 500+ kills and Charm, so hopefully I'll at least get multiple Sinistea shinies. I was autistically catching every Sinistea because if I can get an authentic with a mark, I'd consider that an honorary shiny (though I actually already have one with the Thorny Mark of all things).

SOS chaining makes shiny hunting a lot easier and it has one of the better breeding spots for efficient egg hatching so if shiny hunting is what you want than USUM is good for it. It's also the only version in the foreseeable future where you can get shiny ultra Beasts. As a game in general it's fun and enjoyable if you can get past all the cutscenes. I beat it last night actually.

usum have a very good selection of legendaries, only thing that sucks about the legends in particular is that some are locked behind having two other legends (Suicune, Giratina, ect) which are version exclusive (Entei/Raikou for example). so if you really want to go for them you better play the game twice or hope and pray a used copy hasn't caught them already (same with UBS but you don't need two to get a third one, they're just exclusive).
i know it was the same in ORAS but at least that game didn't bombard you with cutscenes

when i did it gen 6 when i was done i would place them in bank put them in X or Omega ruby and just reset the game
but in gen 7 and 8 i clean up every 2-3 boxes
or you can save before collecting the batch of eggs and reset to save the clean up process all together

i got a shiny tapu lele from pokemon home somehow (wonder trade baby) and was looking to trade it for some nice legendary (mewtwo/mew/necrozoma - idgaf if they're not shiny desu) if anyone wants (i can understand if no one wants it, i'll just hold on to it till Crown tundra comes through and register it)

i have some plans to hunt in dlc but i think im going to wait until it comes out to buy it to see how it is

i have a small amount of shinies in my collection because im not that invested in hunting and took a 3 month break.
