Am I the only one who chooses pokemon movesets based on the design of the pokemon and the concept, typing and animation of the moves instead of how objectively useful they are for combat?
For example, let's say I have a Mawile. I could give her a moveset with Sucker Punch, Incinerate, Play Rough and Solar Beam. But that doesn't feel like a moveset that a Mawile would use in the Pokemon world. I mean, her whole shtick is that she has a pair of huge jaws on the back of her head, yet none of those moves involve her jaws at all. That's why I'd prefer to teach her moves like Crunch, Ice Fang and Iron Head instead.
Another example, Lopunny. She's a rabbit, she jumps high and she mostly fights with her legs. Instead of teaching her completely unfitting moves like Toxic, Thunderbolt, and Shadow Ball, I'd rather give her a moveset that makes sense for a Lopunny to use, with moves like Low Sweep, High Jump Kick, Bounce and Dizzy Punch.
Does anyone else feel the same way? I hope I'm expressing myself well enough.
