Just my opinion, but I'm curious on everyone elses. Hiroyuki Tani is directing the SwSh DLC, and so far he seems to get what we want. Thoughts? Could he potentially save the franchise?

Probably, based on context, it means the lead designer for the field. Like, Tani likely designed as the lead the actual field of the region, others then coming in to add assets like the tree, bushes, etc. Now he's director though, so I get why the trees look better, and things look more interesting. Galar as a landmass isn't bad, it's the lack of stuff on it that annoys, so I'm hype for Tani.

It's hard to say what can be attributed to him as a director vs. how much can be attributed to Gamefreak having some extra development time to improve their engine and use whatever lessons they learned from developing the basegame. That's still not gonna stop this place from parading him around as the next Morimoto.

Morimoto's a battle nerd, done the programming for it since the start. It's why he's ALWAYS in-game as a battleable opponent. He doesn't want to direct another game, or they'd have him doing it as a senior staffer.

For some reason, a lot of people on this board like to peddle this narrative that Masuda or someone in TPC is deliberately sabotaging any director that does too good of a job so that they don't have to try as hard. That's because a lot of them don't get Pokémon will only ever be a kid's game. They don't understand they WANT to make the games this way as that's what helps them sell the series to children. They think it's some big boogyman stopping the games maturing, when it's the complete opposite, they don't want it to mature, as long as it's still performing as it is with children.

I would say you're right but look at the autist who directed USUM. He spent a year doing nothing but updating the battles and photo club, and it speaks miles that they aren't letting him direct another game or even DLC ever again.
