Pokemon as it is is just not a good format for open world shit and Cuckslayer did nothing to remedy that. As much as autists say "mmmm but all I NEED is to just go and catch my pokeymans and fight the gyms" the lack of any real plot, lore, sidequests, difficulty, minigames, unlockables, or useful collectibles apart from maybe TMs and the Pokemon themselves drags the whole thing down considerably.
Maybe if it had been an original region, but Crystal is fucking awful to use for an open world game, hell I don't think any of the main games are.
The one good thing I can say about CC is that it might provoke someone aware of its numerous flaws to try and make a quality open world fangame of their own because we're sure never getting that shit from GF lol
