That's because in Japan the original games were Red and Green, blue didn't come out till later on when Red and Blue were released to the world, that's why their names are mixed up, "Gary" is Green in Japan but Blue everywhere else and vice versa.

The clothes were all based on the Gen1 artworks and manga but they just gave her added blue shorts for obvious reasons

OP IS silly for expecting GF to fill in the blanks with Adventures references, but on the most basic level, Adventures Blue-Green was a wannabe femme-fetale that poked around in the bad guys business. Her not only knowing about Mewtwo, but knowing that it could mega evolve and tracking its stones in advance does, on top of being a worthy task for an ex-protagonist, feel like a fitting last chapter to an unwritten little cycle.

But Gen 1 doesn't have a lot of room for extra characters without just giving away what to do even more, so I'm not sure what the best place for her would be. If I could have my shameless way I would use her to point out obscure game lore or make references to old rumors and Gen 1 design oddities ("Your partner Pokemon reminds me of this "Pikablu" thing I've been lookin' for..."). Really have fun with her being this super strong trainer just looking for funny junk since we already have the ex-Rival being the "useful veteran".

Red had Venusaur, Blue had Charizard and the girl had Blastoise, just like they do in the manga. This was never the case in the game canon, in which Red has always had all four Gen 1 starters + Snorlax and Blue normally has his Pidgeot and Arcanine.

its like a darker take on the plots of the pokemon games. a lot of the plot will deviate from the story of the games, and has some really good twists. a good example is how the gym leaders and elite four are actual characters that show up more than just the one time when you fight them for the most part. it also manages to connect a lot of the games together in the arcs, and due to the fact that the later arcs were written after the next games had already released, they have a lot of forshadowing (like team galactic being affiliated with team rocket in the FRLG arc). i can understand why a lot of people wouldnt like it, cause its cool to dislike "edgy" stuff, but overall, i think its really fun and cool

tldr its fuckin cool and expands on a lot of stuff that the games never even touch
