Honestly arena trap doesn't make much sense. Instead, make spiderweb an ability, but only able to trap bug types, so a bug version of magnet pull rather than an arena trap clone.

That way smogon can't ban it and ariados gets a niche trapping and killing 80% of sticky web setters, while setting webs and toxic spikes itself.

Sticky Web setters are only used in HO as their job is to set up webs and die anyway. And Ariados isn’t even beating half of them anyway

nah I would go with the route of making him a trick room sweeper
x scissor now has a high crit rate it gets drill run and first impression, toxic thread hits both opponents and now drastically lowers speed
it now gets the ability merciless as well

Yeah. What's your point?
Arena Trap, Sticky Web, and Toxic Spikes mean nothing in the official meta, so Ariados will be as irrelevant as ever.
Giving it an ability that gets it banned from the only meta where hazards are useful is counterintuitive to making Ariados get used more.
