>>43846561I took a break from pokemon because of studies when HGSS was coming out.
I only went back to run through HG in 2015 (when i was 22) and BW and BW2 so i could get to gen 6, which i only finished this year (currently on ORAS, then gonna play sumo and usum, then swsh).
I did it in order because I felt the upgrades in gameplay and graphics would make older games harder to play and enjoy.
Honestly, you should play both BW2 and XY.
BW2 is almost like gen 2, in that the story is a continuation of the previous games, but with different protagonists and rivals, and slight changes to the region.
XY is also fun,the rivals are a bit annoying, but i don't particularly play for the plot.
The best thing about XY is the graphics (compared to earlier gens) and the ease of breeding pokemon.
You can also catch every pokemon with just xyoras, so I'm working on a living dex, so i can breed mon and transfer them to later gens.
I think i didnt give gen 5 enough time, because i wanted to blitz to gen 6.
Basically, play both gen 5 and 6 if you are undecided. Probably start with gen 5. BW2 being a sequel isn't a problem if you haven't played BW in ages.
