The remake contest dresses (?) just get worse and worse with time.
Definitely fun and a little metagame unto themselves, being a place where every Pokemon can compete even if having wider movepools is still an advantage. But their pacing with rest of the game is a bit out of whack, with the desire to max out conditions making them best left until endgame, at which point you steamroll the first three ranks and only the Master round is really the "game". ORAS sort of fixed that by letting you actually start participating from the very first contest hall (but making multiple halls redundant) and earning you non-contest rewards. It was also a bit of pain to use a Pokemon in both battle and contests without typically defaulting to their aesthetically default type (smart psychics, tough fighters, etc.)
