Is gen 9 really going to drop linear routes for open wild area-esque routes? All the wild area was missing for me was accessible areas like pic related. Wish the ghost tower opened up a new area to explore

We need trainer levels as well. With an emphasis on exploration having a trainer level would allow for more areas to access. For example maybe at trainer level 3 you can swim, at ,trainer level 20 you can climb certain walls etc.

I can see this being the case. My boyfriend almost didn't want to continue playing Sword when he got to the wild area because it felt like too much but I reminded him he didn't have to explore it all and could just go to the next destination. Eventually he learned to love and explore the wild area on his own. I would consider him a very casual player since he doesn't normally play video games.

Wild area lacked depth.
Pokemon didn't interact with each other or their surroundings.
Often times Pokemon just felt dropped or placed on the map, with little relation between them and that environment.
Bugs should be on trees, monkeys dangling. Idk...

I wouldn't say routes will disappear, but I think we can totally expect more open area areas next game, maybe even in towns.

LITTLE TOWN HERO is blatantly a tech-demo for a 3d rpg world that Gamefreak turned into a game, the DLC is focusing 100% on a open world area too.

I think that Routes should be converted from linear paths into their own bite-sized Wild Areas. No grand, singular, and virtually empty ones like the one we see in Sword/Shield.

Holy shit having interactions and ecology like mhw would really work for the wild area. It would created depth and appeal. However this shit would take ages to code in and game freak of all companies would never hire more people to do it.
