>>43860306Just because they're not the target demographic (which for the games, Game Freak has said repeatedly isn't true) doesn't mean the games have to be bad.
Mario is for kids and his games are good.
Crash Bandicoot is for kids and his (original and newer) games are good.
Mega Man is for kids and his games are mostly good.
Kirby is for kids, and was literally made to be Baby's first platformer, and most of his games are good.
It's an ignorant argument to justify 'Game allowed to be bad because for kids.' All that should do is give the game a little leniency, but it shouldn't destroy any discussion about the game's actual merit.
It's the same with any kid's media that isn't aimed at literal pre-schoolers. Most Pixar films? Intended for kids to enjoy, but tailored for the entire age-range to enjoy.
Heck, let's look at Dream Works, who again, is marketing their movies at kids.
They made Shrek, everyone loves it, and despite being a kid's film is regarded a great film in it's own right, with it's sequel being better (even setting Box Office Records.)
Meanwhile, they also made Shark Tale, a universally despised movie, and even though it's a 'Kid's Movie' that doesn't stop adults from rightfully ripping it apart, because it's bad.
Then compare that to Over the Hedge, it's not a great movie but it's also not bad, but it's a kid's movie so if it's a little more juvenile and not up to the standard of other major Hollywood blockbusters, it makes it easier to enjoy knowing that it wasn't tailored specifically for you to enjoy so you can ignore some of the lesser parts of the movie's problems and still enjoy the film.
It's ingenuine to justify a game being allowed to be bad simply because it's for kids.
