That’s a lot of negative emotion for a video game. You look at a mess like Sonic ’06, and, speaking ignorantly here, as I know nothing of the sanic fanbase, but I don’t seem to hear people bitching with such fervent hatred over it.
I refuse to believe that this comes from a purely critical place. It’s either trolling or, i don’t even know. Jealously that it has all of the cool features that their favorite pokemon game doesn’t? Or it lacked the inclusion of their one special feature from THEIR favorite game. ie. The Battle Frontier, or Contests, or Pokeathalon. Maybe they just don’t want a game with depth. They prefer something simple and 2-dimensional like GSC or RSE.
People have the games they like, and the ones they don’t. Preferences are subjective. The fact Gen 5 has the most features out of any game we’ve had to date is objective. Maybe all of the hate is the disconnect between these two statements. Again, I don’t know.
tl:dr - I bitch and moan about ‘toxic critics’. It achieves nothing.
