Plus, if it still existed, and gamefreak adhered to the fact that water types can only be special, the game would end up lacking diversity in what to use, which because fo the split, it definitley doesn’t anymore. For instance, if the split didn’t happen, then barraskewda has no reason to not be picked over most other water types for offence but the existence of the split gives previously useless Pokemon more ability to actually do shit
So in conclusion, the split was needed, stop pretending like it was a bad thing is absolutely idiotic
