>>43882144I think it's a combination of the voice director being incompetent (Lisa Ortiz's Galar Team Rocket Pokedex voice, SM Rotom Dex, and Lillie dub VA selections alone speak volumes about her not being able to choose properly), Natochenny & company only doing 1-2 line reads and being done with it coasting by without genuine effort (see her Vanity Fair read-- even in BF & DP she was recording for 4 to 6 hours and in the 4Kids Era in OS & AG they recorded for 6 to 8 hours), Carter Cathcart's poor script writing (when something out of 4Kids sounds like a more natural script in terms of people speaking like normal human beings & especially Team Rocket not alliterating all the time in the old days you know there's a problem), and Goldfarb's terribly out of place replacement music (it doesn't have to be as bad as it is but it's made worse by the fact TPCI are still replacing more of the OST than 4Kids ever did in their own dub in Journeys).
tl;dr I think the problem with the TPCI dub is after Season 14 and M14, they stopped giving a fuck entirely-- that led to the dub hitting new lows and a progressive decline in quality to the point in the USA it's off TV now. The only somewhat watchable things since 2014 are M21 and M22 dubbed, and even M22 has TPCI aping the 4Kids-rewritten script rather than sticking to the Japanese one halfway into the film-- plus the voice acting is also worse than the M01 dub's despite that being 4Kids' worst dub of any film in their tenure, no less.
I think TPCI treat the Anime too much only like what it's supposed to be: a marketing tool for the games to pander to only kids 6 and less like a Nick Jr show, and nothing more. 4Kids, for all their censor happy ways and errors at times, treated the Pokemon dub more like an actual show and had a lot more passion/enthusiasm for the end product-- more than a decade later after they kicked the bucket, it still shows in contrast sadly.
