>>43882919It makes sense as an organism, albeit an odd, synthetic one. Traditional chest mimics don't make any sense because there's no evolutionary reason for them to change form, they really just need their uncanny appearance. Real creatures don't transform, they mimic something to attract prey and that's that. They may have mechanisms that help them catch that prey, but Electrode has that too, namely its speed and electric attacks. As an element of gameplay, they also explode, because it makes them more threatening to the player - but it also suggests they're somewhat like possums, who famously (and uncontrollably) play dead when threatened. It's stated that Electrode, too, spontaneously explode without their control. Pokemon are intended to blur the line between monster and believable creature, even if they don't always look believable or realistic. The idea is that you're supposed to be able to imagine most of them actually living in an ecosystem. This is one reason so many newer designs are so loathed - the designers slap a gimmick or human occupation onto an animal and call it a day, with little to no attention paid to how that creature would function in a real ecosystem. Electrode may not embody this concept perfectly, but it does follow it.
