The complaint was always too many dark types in Kanto. Of all the dark types introduced in gen 2, only Umbreon is available during the main campaign. They fixed this in Crystal by putting Sneasel in Ice Cave, but at that point, you're about to reach the last gym, and sneasel's not much use by that time.

My only issue is that they're Pokemon of types that kind of need more representation. Misdreavus was the only Ghost other than Gastly, and Houndour/Slugma/Murkrow could've added a lot to a weak Fire/Dark line up.

Post game is what takes place after the credits roll. The first time the credits roll is after you beat Lance, hence Kanto, which you can only properly explore after the credits roll, is postgame.

This does a much better job at portraying how difficult it is to get access to a lot of Gen 2 Pokemon while playing through Johto, especially blind.
It would have worked a lot better if there were a lot more Pokemon introduced.

I feel like many people played through GS with their starter, maybe an Ampharos, and HM slaves. The level curve doesn't cater to those wanting to make teams of 4-6. And in Crystal, you can't even catch a Mareep for some reason.

So Shuckle, Sudowoodo, Furret, Noctowl, Lanturn, Jumpluff, Quagsire, Unown, Girafarig, Swinub, four version exclusives, Wobbuffet, Corsola, Stantler, Miltank, Sunflora, Bellossom, Natu, Smeargle, Togetic, Espeon/Umbreon, Crobat, and the starters. Plus low-encounter mon. That's a pretty good selection, all things considered.

so only Murkurow, Misdreavus, Sneasle, Slugma, Magcargo, Houndour, Houndoom, Porygon2, Blissey, Larvitar, Pupitar, Tyranitar, and 1 box legendary are available after you become the champion with Tyrogue and Hitmontop rneeding you to get 8 badges first. Although Steelix, Scizor, and Kingdra can be obtained techincially, good luck grinding Horsea and Magnemire.

It's weak the only place I can see it being useful is against Bugsy and maybe against Whitney (for Magcargo) so they should've put it somewhere early game.
Houndour and Murkrow being available prior Morty Also would make sense. Misdreavus Also Just before Morty as having it before Whitney would be an overkill.

I don't think Slugma should've been post-game, Houndour I can get since it was Archer's main Pokemon but without either of them your only Johto Fire-Type options are Cyndaquil, hunting for Entei or playing Gold and getting Ho-Oh.

You zoomer faggots don’t realize that back then the new pokémon were not considered replacements but more of an add-on to the original 150. You discover the new ones but the game doesn’t expect you to have a party of 6 johtomons.

GS was a straight sequel, not a soft reboot like all other gens.

I know, I only highlight the fact of how ridiculous it is that Kanto is considered the ''post game''.

Its kind of like if after you fight Norman, there is a final epic fight against Team Magma/Aqua, then you save the world, roll the credits, and the rest of Pokemon Ruby is considered ''The Post-GAme''.

People try to argue against this but the best way to verify how true this picture is is by looking at all the "post your current team" threads on this board. You look at all the Johto teams that are being posted and I swear at at least 90% of them are:

And the 90% isn't even an exaggeration. I don't even bother looking at people's Johto teams anymore because I know it's always the exact same setup. You can see this same phenomenon in Diamond/Pearl where everyone's team is Infernape, Staraptor, Luxray, Roserade, Gastrodon/Floatzel and Garchomp because there is nothing else available. You know the Pokemon selection is shit when everyone is running (almost) the exact same team year after year, and that only happens with G/S and D/P, the games with the worst Pokemon selections in the series.

Not only do you defeat the Champion and are registered in the Hall of Fame at the end of Johto, but you also don't experience any sort of a plot in Kanto. It's post-game.
