As for communicating what is what - I didn't quite get that it was its tail (and not a "donut" bush).
Also, if it's grabbing its tail the second paw should also be visible on the tail. The ears could maybe benefit more to the general design of being shy or just have some sort of tiny detail (and underside or a play on berries as jewelry, just throwing ideas).
In general - this is definitely an improvement, I like that I see some expression, I like the inclusion of the marking under the eye, seems like it is crying, I like the paws and that the nose is in the same color as berries, you're not going overboard with design elements.
