To be fair, by the time you get there you're fighting level 20 pokemon, which in itself is pretty fucking nuts for only the first gym in the game. A player should be skilled enough to handle more pokemon at that point.

Meh. A lot are fine but you can work backwards from their eventual championship teams to give them better ones.
