Sure, a third 'definitive' version is greedy, but it's also a different experience than the previous entries as well, adding entirely new story and features; and the base games still have forms of post games.
Everyone always expects a third game (or sequel game) because there's always been one. Z is the only exception, but that wasn't because it wasn't planned, Game Freak dropped it to work on anniversary projects (It was so last minute and they didn't even tell the anime staff, which is why we got a Z season)
So, assuming we don't get a third version for SWSH (which we still might) that's $90 for a game and post game experience. Let's say the post game is 1/3rd the game to be generous. Since SWSH already has base post-game, that's $20 + $30 DLC. So $50 just for the post-game activities.
Platinum was $40, meaning the post game is $13. Compare $50 to $13.
Now, assuming one was to get Platinum and either Diamond or Peal, that's $80 for both games. The post game between them is only $26. That's still half the price.
Even just comparing base prices, Diamond and Platinum are $80 - but you get 2 differing campaigns (with different features as well) a long with the post game in each.
Not to mention, between Diamond and Platinum, that's about 160 hours of average gameplay. The average for SWSH is a little over 40, so include the DLC let's say it's 45.
$80 for 160 hours of content.
$90 for 45 hours of content.
And the content in the between the 160 hour games are far more diverse than the 45 in SWSH, even including the DLC.
Anyway you look at it, that price comparison is incredibly flawed.
