Wild area was an improvement over the one in the base game. Areas are more interesting and they connect together better. You get a good selection of returning Pokemon to choose from. Alolan Digletts aren't much but they're something to look out for when you are roaming the wild area.
Following Pokemon is poorly implemented, to the point where they may as well have not bothered or at least delayed it until Crown Tundra and give it more polish. Pokemon awkwardly switch between walking at a snail's pace and running at full speed. Certain Pokemon won't ever be able to catch up with you. The scaling is fucked on certain Pokemon like Wailord. Pokemon awkwardly slide when you walk into them slowly. The Following Pokemon is a simple addition to a 2D game like HGSS, but it requires a lot more work to bring it to a 3D game. LGPE had a relatively small number of Pokemon in the game, which allowed them to make each animation more polished. That's a much more demanding task for SwSh, even if they didn't even bring back all the Pokemon.
The story and single-player content is pretty short. There are only about 5 NPC battles in the game but they quickly scale from level 60 to level 75, so if you do try and catch a new team of Pokemon for the DLC, they'll quickly get outlevelled unless you grind a lot. The tower of darkness was also extremely easy when I raised Kubfu to the recommended level of 70, I imagine the tower of water was a similar experience.
Overall, I wouldn't say this DLC is worth half the price of the expansion. I would wait until the Crown Tundra until I can decide whether it's "worth it". Then again, £26 isn't a massive amount of money to me personally so I wouldn't say I have buyer's remorse.
