I liked him at first because he looked cute in a goofy way, but when I learned about his personality and involvement through the game -even though it needed fixings on some parts, had to admit-, can't help but fell in love with him. It's just sad that he had a lot of potential to exploit more as a character, but it's not like you can expect that much from current Pokémon games. Either way, I still like him for what he is, and the rest can be easily explored in depth through fanworks.
And hopefully someday in Masters.
