Stantler isn't even the obscure Pokemon of GS. It has a high encounter rate in grass you're required to walk through - also Brock had like a whole storyline with it in an episode if I recall? Things like Quilfish and Octillery or more obscure, unmemorable, and about equally mundane.
For Gen III, yeah, Huntail and Grumpig are up there. Maybe like, Illumise, too.
