No exaggeration. SM made XY look like shit but in comparison to SwSh...the framerate, the camera angles in battle...its so much better than I remember. Jesus Christ.

I just miss how smooth overworld movement felt in XY. The rollerskates were absurdly fun to zip around on.
SM somehow took a step back by removing most overworld animations in favour of fade-to-black shit, and the ride Pokemon felt really awkward to handle.

xy were "okay" at the time they came out.
downgrade from BW2, but the customization was cool and the online was top tier.
remember the interview way back when, back when xy came out where they said they'd never do dlc for pokemon. yeah good times...

I get that in the moment it can be really easy to say something poorly worded or downright stupid and plans change over time, but they're really bad about avoiding promises they can't keep and painting targets on their backs. They easily could have said "we don't intend to make dlc for pokemon in the future" instead of saying it'll never happen. Or in the case of swsh just "these games will be more like previous our long time fans are familiar with" to point out that they weren't sticking with the lgpe mechanics instead of saying it's directed at the veteran fans and trying to hype it up as almost everything we've ever wanted in a pokemon game only to bring everything crashing down with a below average experience. The reason they're always telling fans not to get their hopes up too high is that they're bad at giving realistic answers/statements in the first place. Hell, if the question is about something they can't discuss yet how hard is it to say some variation of not being at liberty to discuss future plans? Sure there's a lot of ways that basically confirm whatever was asked about just from what isn't said, but a properly neutral statement can avoid that pitfall and all the screeching from people who don't get plans change whenever they do something they previously said was off the table.

I'm 25 and have liked XY from the moment I first played them, and to this day still don't understand what's supposedly so bad about them despite the easier main game. They have the same flaws as every gen prior, maybe even less so, and yet compensate by adding a lot of interesting features and QoL changes.
I honestly think people jump on the "xy bad" meme just because everyone else is also doing it instead of judging themselves and forming their own opinion, and then try to cope with shitty reasoning like this one when someone comes out to tell it like it is.
