There are only like, 3 or 4 bad designs in Gen 1. I can count them on one hand. Meanwhile other generations don't even come close to having as large a concentration of quintessential, impeccable designs as Gen 1.

There are no "bad" designs because as subjective as that opinion is, it being the first generation setting up the boundaries negates it from any modern revisionism.

I consider myself a Genwunner since I've been playing consistently since 1998 back when I was 12 (yes I'm old). I can fully admit Gen 1 had a lot of lazy designs. Honestly, I think Gens 4 and 5 had the best designs in the franchise. I think Gens 3 and 7 had some of the weirdest designs, Gen 2 was pretty boring design-wise, and Gen 8 and 6 are above average.

Gen 1 bad designs, get a free pass because they are gem 1.
Having a ball with a face, or just a pile of eggs, is excusable with the hardware limitations, stopping you from really going ham with designs, since it wouldn't show.

Every gen had good, bad and passable pokemon. But you will look upon older games and mechanics with fondness because you experienced them as a kid.

If they released voltorb, diglette, magnamite, etc. They would get the same amount of shit as the icecream gets.

Also people tend to hate on gen 1 because it's forced in there face constantly.
Want to see some love for some of the gen 2 starters? To bad, have a charizard.
