I have no idea where they even go from here. Their strategy of just making things biggerer and strongerer than last Gen can't carry on forever.

Armour. You get several different armour types and any Pokemon can equip any sort, but different armours synergise better with different Pokemon. They boost certain stats and each one has a move attached to it that the equipped Pokemon can use in battle, effectively being a fifth move slot with limitations. Visually it just changes their textures to look like whatever material the armour is supposed to be, but shillmons get Mega/G-Max-esque new designs when a specific armour is equipped. In the story, the armours are alien Pokemon that form a symbiotic relationship with the Pokemon that equips them, and they can be used in battle as their own Pokemon though they have shit stats and move pools.

You can’t sell toys of a Pokemon holding two items anon. I mean you could, but they wouldn’t sell well. These generational gimmicks need to include new designs or an accessory of some sort so merch of it can be produced.

It will absolutely NOT be fusion, unless it's restricted to 10 pokemons max. I remember a GBA style romhack with fusions in it and it was fucking heavy, even with 2D sprites and fewer generations.
It's GF, it will be a low effort gimmick just like "pokemon but big". Maybe have the pokemon's shadows come to life and attack like the not nerfed Parental Bond ability (but this time you can choose it to use a different move in the same turn), of course some special mons will have shadows that look different from usual and get special effects.

This makes fusion actually sound reasonable.
Only a small handful of mons (Charizard, Pikachu, Eevee, Lucario, Mewtwo) would get their own custom fusions, and even then, only with certain other mons.

Hopefully nothing, if they need a gimmick they can bring back megas, but make them more manageable. All the gimmicks do is clutter the game with Nuke options and the latest ones were banned to Ubers. They should go back to basics for Gen 9 and make sure the routes aren’t flipping hallways this time

I think they found out that forms are the selling point for gimmicks by now, since Z-Moves were completely outshined by Alolan Forms. So another form gimmick that's mechanically different from Megas and Dynamax. Maybe something like an aura form, which gives a Pokemon an aura which would be like a second ability.

Terrain mechanics are further expanded. You can now move around the arena in battle, and more effects are added to manipulate it anime-style (like using water moves to flood it).

If it was fusion, it would be between specific ones, for example Pikachu + Charizard, but they wouldnt be able to fuse with other pokemon with fusion capabilities.

The anime already has Full Synchro (Ash-Greninja), so add Cross Fusion - i.e. a super form that merges the trainer with their Pokémon. You can't switch out while fused, and if KO'd you lose instantly.
