USUM for mantine surfing and ultra exploration but if you want "story" in a pokemon game you'd want SM.
USUM has the best difficulty in pokemon games and really good challenges and SM is easier.
USUM and SM are not shit and are unironically the best not-DS pokemon games.

usum is the net gameplay experience
sm is the better story with more interesting things to reflect upon
both are very fun, alola is a great region just bogged dowm by the system and too much dialogue but I am not bothered by those things
