What’s the point of making the Hoenn starters return in Crown Tundra, and only them?

Wasn’t Greninja the most popular pokemon? It would make much more sense to have the Kalos ones return.

Greninja is individually more popular but overall the Hoenn starters are more popular. Everyone forgot Chesnaught and the only one from the Fennekin-line that has some popularity is the one in your pic. That said, looking at how competitive-based the CT dex seems to be, it would have made sense to bring the Kalos starters back too.

I remember having Diamond and reading about how Arcreus was in the game data, but it didn't debut until gen 5 I think, and by that point I no longer had a DS

I’ve started thinking about it some more, after I’ve made that post. Perhaps Megas are indeed coming back, because the only starters capable of mega evolving are Kanto and Hoenn ones.
That’s a shame, because Megas deserved to stay dead. I’m sure we would’ve gotten the a Kalos starters if megas weren’t getting reintroduced.
