reminder that Gamefreak fucked up Gen 2 so hard Nintendo had to send someone over to fix their mess, which is what led to Gen 2 having an entire extra region packed into the cart

It baffles me how they put so much work into making a soulful experience while being completely inept gameplay-wise. GSC gym battles and level curve make the games unplayable without a mod

Really just more of a case of them adopting the anime designs.

The old sprites were bad because they didn't draw them on paper first or think about how they'd be animated, they just went straight to making the sprites. So when the anime was made, they naturally had to redesign most Pokemon to make it easier to animate them and have them express emotions, and then the anime designs became the canon ones.

Reminder that Ho-Oh in contest order is #47. That means Stantler, Hoothoot and friends were already in the making by the August of 1996, and we dont have much leftovers of this time. (We don't know if entirely different Pokemon were in their contest slots, either.)

Except for Ampharos. We have this.

The order of Pokemon by creation of design
If we go by contest orders, Rhydon was the very first Gen I Pokemon, proto-Celebi (if it didn't replace anything) was the first Gen II Pokemon, Camerupt was the first Gen III Pokemon, and Munchlax was the very first Gen IV Pokemon.

I remember the blue source pics being labeled PM2F which strongly suggests that blue's sprites were actually for GS. really cool.

Yeah. There's strong evidence. Especially when the scratchpads have tons of R/B sprites for references, nothing from R/G.

Also, they have Blue beta's Raticate, too.

You don't know how many times they drew sprites for the other gens. Or if 3-5 times is an accurate number for Gold.
