They're cutes.
I want more abstract Pokémon because I enjoy them more, but I know many people is very... basic, and slap an uninspired but cute design will be more effective than try to innovate with a design that even if it's not cute it's unique and fresh.

I don't even mind anthro designs, but it bugs the fuck out of me that we went from things like Sun Wukong and an exaggerated emperor penguin into a soccer bunny and a spy that doesn't actually invoke spy themes in its normal design.
New starters can have more character-like designs and all, but fucking don't downgrade it into pop culture shit like that.
