Everyone just says steel fairy because its just the mathematical answer, but only for the defensive aspect. Also, resisting things like bug is not as valuable as resisting something like ground so you shouldnt rely on the mathematical thing way too much.
Some types that are good both offensively and defensively:
>Dark/Poison
>Normal/Ghost
>Fighting/Ghost
>Ground/Flying
>Steel/Ghost
>Steel/Fighting
>Inb4 zamazenta bad and zacian good
Zamazenta has just way worst stats, is a defensive pokemon forced to lower its defense when attacking, loses speed when crowned for some reason, and has a way worse ability, if zacian was steel fighting it would be definately be stronger than steel/fairy zacian.

Without swords dance it is not damaging shit. Shitty stat distribuition, where 580 is not high if you have 90 special attack and too much defense that you can’t effectively take advantadge of, because of shitty support movepool and shitty offensive presence.

Lucario is to slow and both cobalion and lucario have mixed attacker stat distribuition, m-lucario is not in the game, but was in ubers in ultra-beast+megaevolution filled metagame last generations. It doesnt matter if your type is good if your stats are shit.

Zamazenta is forced to lose speed when crowned and is forced to lose defense when using fighting moves. Steel fairy is a worst type overall but definately more offensive, if zacian and zamazenta swapped types they would both be stronger

They need to have usable defensive stats and recovery, otherwise they’ll suck.
If pokemon like dugtrio-alola, sawk, skuntank or salazzle were changed to get steel/flying type, equivalent stab moves and nothing else, they would stay the same tier or be even worse.

Earthquake is the strongest, 100% accurate drawback free move in the game, so being weak to Ground is worse than being weak to something like Ghost, with a max 80 BP STAB move. The same goes for Flying, Fire, and Fairy.
At the same time, having one weakness and any kind of defensive presence makes you very hard to OHKO without a super effective move.
>252+ SpA Adaptability Lucario-Mega Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Snorlax: 408-484 (77.8 - 92.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
The #1 and #2 strongest unboosted Focus Blasts in the game.
So a Steel/Flying with strong defensive stats and either Flash Fire or Volt Absorb/Lightning Rod as abilities would be the best combo in the game. It would be impossible to kill without a super effective move, making it very easy to force the opponent into predictable plays.

This is all in theory.
There's plenty of other aspects to a mon, like ability, movepool, and stats.
But in a metagame of 324 Mews with every possible type, the same stats, the same ability, and the ability to learn every move, I'd argue that Steel/Fighting Mew is the best.
Also, that'd be a pretty cool OM on Showdown. One where you get 6 Mews with custom typings.

Only 2 steel types exist, and they have defensive stats and roost. The type sucks offensively, barely anyone uses dual stab on corviknight and no one uses any steel move on skarmory, read the thread.
