They ask for pokemon to be like BOTW, they ask for pokemon to be like DQ, they ask for a pokemon moba, a pokemon mmo, and a pokemon gacha. Even people who say they want mainline game want it to be open world, real-time, and VR. This is not the entire fanbase but it is a significant amount. They don't pull Masters and Unite out of their ass, they are responding to a need from the fanbase. I assume there are people who just want the same old gameplay in a new region with new pokemon but they are certainly less vocal. It really confuses me to see so many people ask for a change in the pokemon formula and not liking the result. People ask for a pokemon skin of their favorite game and the ruining the franchise deliver because that is where the profit is. When they see profit in a formulaic pokemon game they will deliver. Until then enjoy p2w mobile games and mainline games that borrow from other games.
