Fuck, I'm kinda stuck picking Chimchar if I want any decent fire coverage at all, and it's not like I can get those Secret Keys anymore.

And that's wrong, when you get Surf you can go catch a Magmar. Houndoom and Flareon aren't too hard to obtain either.

OP here, I have this weird thing where if I play a Gen, I feel more inclined to use that generation's exclusive Pokemon rather than say, use Golbat for the 10th time.

As someone said use DNS to get the secret key. It's a bit trickier in the gen 4 games, but I recommend using your phone as a hotspot and change wpa2 to open. Gen 4 wifi was outdated even in the 2000's I could never use it because my router security was literally too good..

Fire types have never really been necessary anyway. Any team worth its shit is going to be packing Flying and Fighting coverage anyway which covers the same types and then some.
The only Pokemon in Platinum that could possibly give you trouble without Fire coverage is Bronzong and Scizor, but those two alone aren't enough to warrant an entire team slot especially since you only see them once or twice each.
If you REALLY want Fire coverage, try Houndoom, Heat Wave Honchkrow (or others), or hack to get that Heat Rotom. Flamethrower Octillery is fun too. Don't forget the Pokemon that learn Fire Punch. I didn't list trade evos with access to Fire moves but you could always hack those too.

Yes Sinnoh lacks fire types but never in a playthrough of any game have I need a fire type or any other one type. Just get coverage fire type moves and other moves that hit the same types. Sinnoh has way shittier things about it than the lack of fire types. If people never mentioned it I likely wouldn't have noticed it.
