It's simple as fuck design wise, all its colours complement each other and work well, it's both cute and cool and can appeal to boys and girls, it is immediately clear what type it is, and its silhouette is incredibly unique. I think it is super clear why it was chosen as mascot, and why it works so well as the mascot. It's genuinely one of the most effectively designed Pokemon out there.
