This might be a bit of a stretch, but I believe Kabu will make a cameo later this year to gift us one of the three Hoenn starters. Might be the one reintroducing mega evolutions as well, even.

A lot of mega-capable Pokémon are coming back.
Kanto and Hoenn starters are the only ones capable of mega-evolving.
This doesn’t confirm it at all, but believing Megas might return later this year is an educated hypothesis.

i thought this when we first saw him and heard he was from hoenn but he’s simply too young to be her grandfather. i’ve since subscribed to the theory that kabu is her father who left hoenn to pursue other ventures instead of taking over the lavaridge gym leaving her to become the gym leader when she’s ready
