On one hand, China is probably the most famous country not to have a pokemon game set there, and there's a ton of culture/history to work with
On the other hand, I have to imagine anything that doesn't treat China like a utopic paradise is going to get b&'d by the CCP, and I'm not sure that's a headache anyone wants to deal with
Of course, WoW did Pandaland and got away with it without much issue
Then again, the plot was basically "foreigners are ruining your otherwise perfect country by bringing their degenerate lack of harmony here" which sounds like a Chinese wet dream
