by making your own criteria to rate them? you can compare it to another games in different departments
compare to other games graphically, gameplay, sound, programming quality
SwSh stays in the "just enough" line in almost every category the only category that really drops the ball is graphically
the game is "just enough" playable, which by itself is a plus compared to some games riddled with bugs, but still is just a "meh" game overall

Well I need to general consensus. The problem is that we give schizos around here too much credit. they are part of the game nonetheless and while i agree graphics aren't the most important thing, its clear the graphics in SwSh are very low effort
that, on top of lying by saying they were going to remove pokemon for high quality animations and graphics when all they did was recycle them
im not against recycling assets either, but then don't promise something you aren't going to fulfill
taking out the controversy, the graphics are very low quality overall with stuff like
barely any shadows
low quality textures
low quality animations
awful water physics
horrible draw distance
non-existant model scaling in-battle
replacing any VFX with a generic one when battling Dynamaxed pokemon
etc.

i think anybody can compare the water in SwSh and Dragon Quest XI and clearly see which one looks better
you can play through the game a objectively declare how difficult it is compared to its contemporaries
you can tell a game has more programming quality because it has less bugs than one with poor programming quality

And if this was EAD or any other studio with more than 2HD releases under their belts, I'd be woried. But fact of the matter is the IOA textures look a lot better than the base WA textures which is a clear indication they're improving the more they work in the medium (like how every other studio got good at this shit, only they started a lot sooner than Game Freak). I'm tired of these deceptive arguments and comparisons when Game Freak's chief problem is starting 3DHD development in 2015, when the rest all started 10 years before.

But someone can argue that water graphics aren't important and it's been established several times that pokemon has so many options is so that you can create your own difficulty

Nope. Gameplay is embarrassingly slow and the UI is horrific too. Using an NPC for sound options would be shat on by literally everyone if anyone but gamefreak did something that retarded

so you doing the devs work of giving the game difficulty? also having to intentionally cripple yourself to get a semblance of difficulty is not good design

you can clearly see playing Big Rigs its a lot buggier than playing anything else
and i don't intend to say SwSh has a lot of bugs to make it unplayable, the only real bugs are online ones which are a standard of Nintendo online games, but still, there are some things that from a programmer perspective look like it was made to work "just enough" like the ladder freezes
