It's not a meme. Gameplay and story segregation is a thing. Gameplay mechanics don't apply to the in-universe world unless it's explicitly stated otherwise. There are some cases where stuff "levels" and "hit points" actually exist in-universe, but Pokemon isn't one of those cases.

there's an episode where chikorita was stomped hard at the flying gym and Ash realized it was a mistake to use her there.
Also, Brock's pokemon showed fear from water in one episode as well

But that was retconned later on as it's retarded. Even if a Pokemon is weak to Water elemental attacks, they still have to drink water to live and bathe in it to clean themselves. Water-weak Pokemon being afraid of regular water has never been brought up since; the opposite has been shown to be true, they can drink and bathe just fine.

Ground type Pokemon are immune to Water unless they get wet. That is true.

Pokemon that are weak to Water attacks do not have a problem with regular water. An Arcanine is shown drinking water, Kiawe's Charizard is shown bathing in a hot tub, and Kiawe's Alolan Marowak plays on a water slide and goes swimming.

That's exactly my point. Water-weak Pokemon are weak to the pressurized magical water used in Water type attacks, but they aren't harmed at all by regular water.

They didn't. Lance's Dragonite used a whole bunch of different moves which I'm glad because I've always thought it incredibly stupid that pokemon could only learn four moves at a time. That limit is just there for the games.

The anime uses the four move limit too though. In fact, it's stated in TPC's product approval manual that Pokemon can only memorize four moves. So no it's not just a game mechanic, Pokemon being limited to four moves at a time is canon.

The writer of that episode intentionally broke the 4 move rule to make Dragonite seem more unstoppable.

The four move limit was officially canonized into the anime in Gen 4 when it was explicitly stated that Infernape forgot Flame Wheel when it learned Flare Blitz, and brought up again in Sun & Moon where it's stated Pikachu can't Catastropika because it requires knowing Volt Tackle, which Pikachu forgot when it learned Electro Ball (which then upgraded into Electroweb).

I know. The games influenced the anime. That's why I was happy when they broke away from that in Lance's Generations episode. It's a stupid limitation that should have always been stuck in the games but wasn't.

The anime exists to advertise the games. Of course they don't still strictly to everything in the games because that would make a shitty show, but they stick to what they can for a reason.

The anime exists to advertise the Pokemon brand as a whole. It shows you what the Pokemon world is like and how Pokemon battles function. Limiting Pokemon to four moves makes no sense. It's video game logic being shoehorned where it doesn't belong.
