i usually do emulator during the weekday to scratch an itch before these threads when i actually hunt in the real games.

if you don't count that then i got a palpitoad a while ago while going for togepi.

if i get something in white i'm planning on masuda methoding the alola starters in usum, for shield i might go for 2% dreepy after i get togepi. though i'm not sure if i should do it right after or do a couple easier ones first.

for me, it has to be both a good color and a striking difference between it and the normal one (granted my favorite shiny is mantine and it only has the former in my opinion).

Right now I'm hunting for roaming Entei/Raikou for said SBQ 2,190 resets (4,380 seen) which is about 180 hours total for this hunt. It's grueling but I know it'll be worth it so I'm sticking through with it.

I like shinies that even after the change, they still look good, and fit the overall theme of the Pokemon still. I think shiny Slugma is a perfect example of this, because it looks like hardened lava. Ofc a good color scheme in general still goes a long way.

I'm kind of worried about drift. I hunted all my bros with MM for two weeks, and at the end I had drift once in a while. I stopped playing to wait for the DLC, and now it's back to normal.

Actively, I've been working through Ultra Sun's wormholes. Passively, yesterday I literally stumbled upon a couple random shinies while fucking around in my fiancee's copy of Let's Go Eevee. Got a shiny Spearow and Metapod while looking for other things.

Hard to say. I'd say it has to be distinct, but some of the more subtle ones look pretty good on their own while some distinct ones look like hot garbage.

if you're talking about gen 8, no. the odds for that mon will stay at the higher odds for forever (probably why the higher odds are only 3% at 500+ so you don't start tripping over shinies of that mon).
for any other gen then yes (unless it's chain fishing, then running away is totally fine).

You can tell the difference between the original and shiny (unlike Garchomp), the colors fit the design and it isn't colors you would expect

I'm working on Wooper in Crystal right now. Lucked out and had a Ditto with shiny genes (won't breed with the red Gyarados) so I'm trying my luck to see if it can breed a shiny.

I like ones that are really different than the original color. I'm that guy that likes stuff like Bruxish's shiny, (even though I don't like the color, but since it's so different, it's neat). Gengar and Garchomp got the short end of the shiny stick, but at least their Mega/G-Max forms fix it. I'm really into teal shinies, so I wish they'd have more of those.

Have quite a large backlog for this actually, Shinx, another G Slowpoke for the tundra, both of the arcto- fossils, returning to Dialga, and a couple more that ill go to when i'm done with the rest.

It doesn't have to change too much, but a visible difference is necessary. The colors also have to mesh, and honestly I really do like soft blues on shinies. I attribute this mostly to the fact that most blue pokemon are water types, so when a shiny goes blue, it looks really nice cause its not just the regular deep ocean blue but instead a lighter softer blue that looks really good. Highlights, full body, whatever, for this reason girafarigs shiny is amazing in my eyes

It's actually crazy. 9 days ago a sneasel ran into me while I was breeding. 3 days later I was attacked by a skwovet while shaking a berry tree. Next day I accidentally drove into a shiny jigglypuff and just a few moments ago a shiny sharpedo attacked me. It feels almost like I have a cheat activated

I got a shiny fail story I think i told it before in vp.

i totally forgot synchronoise was a move, only time you can really use it for hunting (or at all) is if you get a shiny seviper in a zangoose horde in gen 6.
dude totally didn't deserve the fail though, even if he decided to not prioritize killing the normal pokemon before doing anything with the shiny (and also weakening the normal one with golduck instead of swapping into mewtwo turn 1)

The encounter rate for that is extremely extremely low after you get the 500 battles. If I recall correctly, its something like a 6% chance to have a 3x greater chance or something, essentially just a full odds hunt

Yes that is how it works, but its still masuda method odds AFTER you hit 500 encounters (the 3% thing isnt true). Youre just not gaurenteed a shiny for reaching 500. Keep at it, I get most of my shinies between 300 to 800 encounters and thats without the shiny charm

Anyway in Pokémon Sword, in the Isle of Armor DLC I found an NPC who will trade me an Alolan Marowak for my Kantonian Marowak. I understand that it has a chance to be shiny so I’m resetting after each trade until I get one.

My question is: in the trade animation when the Pokémon is like “ flying” towards the other trainer through cyberspace, will you be able to tell if it’s shiny, or do you have to wait until you actually receive it after the little animation plays? This is pretty much my first time doing this.

Longest to get a shiny in general or longest to get what I wanted? Former would be a Safari Ball Scyther which took around 2k eggs, latter would be Protean Froakie which took 5 phases and about 4k eggs total.
Personally, I consider anything that crosses double odds for whatever method you're using as a long hunt, since I take into account expectations and if the RNG is fucking you, so yours counts.

Chain fishing. The odds are stupidly low ( I believe it's like 1/200 or something at max 20(?) encounters). the only problem is that some !'s stay for only a split second, so better have fast reflexes.
