I understand his argument.
Girl characters look like they could be adults, except that the story makes them young teens or preteens.
The boy characters always look like twinks, round faces, thin, no muscles.
Or compare the male protag to masculine male characters and the female protag to feminine female characters.
The male protags are obviously unmasculine, whereas the female protags are obviously feminine.
The most obvious signal is shoulder to waist ratio for males, and hip to waist for females. Most of the male protags have shoulder width the same as waist width, ie boyish.
A lot of female characters have somewhat wider hips to waist.
Personally, I always pick the male cause I'm not some closet tranny or coomer, and I don't jerk off to the female protag
