Like it does especially suck here that we know Pokemon generates so much revenue from games alone, but programmers and designers typically always get underpaid. It's not a good industry.

Ishihara became a full on mobile shilling goblin ever since Iwata died and went as far as to say (and admit publicly) that he thought the Switch would fail. He's desperately trying to capture the same lightning in a bottle as GO while quietly shutting down or ignoring whatever MTX laden spin-off that doesn't perform.

Don't be surprised if he's responsible for not giving Game Freak the resources they needed for SwSh, particularly in early (the planning) stage of development.

If anything the DLC shows what Game Freak could have been capable of if they were actually given some time since the IoA's Wild Area design completely shits all over the base game's. SwSh probably would have got a hell of a lot less shit if the Wild Area wasn't almost entirely a boring flat grassland and was even half as varied as IoA.

XY's ending theme was called Kiseki. XY was also marked the end of coherent plots. If I had to assume it's named based on the outcry to loose ends to be tied up like the AZOTH shit and Melmetal reappearing after 3000 years. Also, Kiseki's message was to entice the world to come together in order to make something greater than itself.

They've got the same problem Bethesda has. Franchise from the 90s has great success, and now employs hundreds at the main office. Guys who were there from the very beginning are now top brass, but none of them are qualified to understand newer coding that would help craft better games on stronger engines.
Only options are to wait for them to retire (which could take decades) or hope the contentedness for creatively stagnant releases bites them in the ass and triggers a revolt from other stakeholders.

SwSh might be the second option, and BW2 and Isle of Armor pretty clearly shows there's talented staff within Game Freak that could liven things up, given the chance.
It's hard to see the 1st option happening for Game Freak. It's already happening at Bethesda, because they face real competition from the likes of CDProjekt. Game Freak can do whatever the fuck it wants as long as TCPi and Nintendo are happy its not actively hurting their brand
