>>44046770The Pokemon distribution, which was already poorly thought-out in a few ways in Gold/Silver, was made slightly worse by the absence of the Mareep line. If you want an Electric type that you can actually use in the campaign, you're basically looking at Magnemite or evolving your Eevee into Jolteon. Remoraid being gone is a bummer, too, though that's more a personal gripe given that it's my favorite Water-type line introduced in Gen 2 other than Totodile.
Otherwise, I just don't think it added enough to be worthwhile. Even Yellow before it made more significant changes, given the extensive changes to the teams/movesets of the Gym Leaders and E4 (it fixed the shit where Trainers' Pokemon only had that Pokemon's last four level-up moves). The extra event with Suicune is neat, but certainly not worth buying a whole other game.
Honestly, it's kind of surprising to me that GF had two big chances to fix the extremely obvious and easy-to-remedy problems with Gen 2 but dropped the ball both times (even though HGSS did a lot of great stuff aside from that). Like would it really have been that tough to tweak the level curve and make Dark, Electric, and Steel types more readily available when they made Crystal?
