I think the reason for this is that normies think the Pokemon games are good while Sonic games have a reputation for being terrible. If people thought Pokemon was going downhill they likely would be more focused on the more degenerate side of the fanbase.

I know that, I just mean that it wasn't nearly as essential to most people's childhoods at the time as pokemon was. Pokemon was a mandatory shared experience during pokemania that you could not opt out of in the united states, sonic just existing at the time and having some kid fans is nothing compared to that.

Dude once again, that has nothing on pokemania. Even assuming every single video game fan was invested in those console wars at the time, pokemania reached every single video game fan as well as every single child in the country, nearly every young adult, and had swathes of older individuals railing against it. It was just on another level, and that has made an enormous amount of people today sympathetic to it. It's kind of like those old animated disney movies that just about every kid was exposed to in the 2000s regardless of interests or position in life and how they're almost universally praised now even when some are not really that exceptional.
