The Gen 4 fossil digging minigame returns, and you can now dig up fossils of non-fossil Pokemon, and revive them into their extinct forms These fossil forms will all be mostly part-Rock, and will differ from each Pokemon. Some Pokemon, such as Dragonite, won't be a whole lot different to their regular forms. While other's, such as Pelipper, will be drastically different in terms of design, stats, and abilities Post ideas of possible fossil/extinct forms of Pokemon. How would their design be different, as well as stats, movepool, abilities, type, ect. Maybe also include why they went extinct, or how they adapted into the modern day

Yanmega and the other ancient evos too i guess

>>44056988 Is not the whole idea of fossil pokemon that only rock types can be successfully revived because they preserve very well? Every existing fossil pokemon has clear rock features that wouldn't make sense if you were to remove, it's not like they magically gained them because they were revived.
Galar fossils of course make this theory weird, but nothing about them is normal and you could assume the other half they fucked up accounts for the rock typing

>>44057070 But why would a turtle lose its shell, a pachyderm lose its solid head? The only arguable ones imo are Aerodactyl and Archen, but Mega Aerodactyl is said to be the true form and prominently shows rocks.

>>44057081 Why does a turtle's head and a pachyderm's head have to be made out of rock?

>>44057105 I said pachyderm instead of pachycephalosaur like a retard, but is it not obvious? Most pokemon with shells have rock typing, and because its pokemon the rock theme carries on beyond that. Rampardos's head is obviously meant to be a hard "Rock Head" that it slams things into

>>44057126 >Most pokemon with shells have rock typing That's actually less than you probably think. Besides, this headcanon is boring and lame as shit. I prefer to think the Rock-typing of most fossilmons is mainly caused by the revival process and the rocky shit inside the fossil, rather than them being Rock-Type in the first place
I'm not saying none of them were originally Rock-Type, but I find it hard to believe there were only Rock-Type Pokemon in prehistory
Anonymous
>>44057261 I think you're misunderstanding, this theory never says that only rock pokemon existed in prehistory. It basically says the pokemon that CAN be revived are rock types because their bodies preserve DNA in the rock. I know it's pokemon, but is it not a weirder stretch for a pokemon to randomly gain very specific and necessary rock elements to their design just because their machine sucks?

>>44057293 Your theory makes more sense, because of Relicanth. It has the same gender ratio as the fossilmons barring the abominations, and is literally a "living fossil" right down to the rock typing. Also some of the dex entries talk about identical Kabuto specimens existing in the current period too iirc.

>>44057293 >>44057391 Still a lame theory, imo. Animals irl aren't made of rock, yet they get well preserved in fossils

>>44057400 You can’t take DNA from their remains and revive them though if they’re fossilized. That’s the whole jist. The rock type remains as rock and preserves DNA

>>44057261 I could see rampardos just being normal type originally, the same way tauros is. The alternative is that rock type pokemon just fossilise better, but there's no reason that should be the case for stuff trapped in amber.

>>44056988 A new type for fossil mons would be cool. Something like ancient type. They could put time travel into the games where you go back and catch the extinct stuff.
For the op, I would say that Dragapult and Genesect are the two I'd want to see the most. Dragapult would be pure dragon and Genesect pure bug.
