Not only that, but SEVERAL different ways. Little Cup, Monotype, Under Used, Over Used, Ubers, Anything Goes. Hell, they even made a simulator so they can play how they want.
It is not the Creator Sanctioned ruleset, but if we go by that logic, Smash tournaments are in the wrong for turning items off.
It's its own meta made for how the PLAYERS want to play, not how Gamefreak wants you to play.
