I disagree with the opinion that /vp/ is garbage at competitive pokemon. I've had/witnessed plenty of high-quality discussions about comp in the last few years on this board. Unfortunately, the shitters are typically more vocal and confident in themselves so that's probably why the stereotype exists. Posting my elo as an example of a decent player who uses /vp/
