Finally Thievul gets some love. Has a long way to go but GF didn't want to give something that fast a stronger base offense with Stakeout. Pretty ironic though since they weren't as careful with the fossil signature moves.

Gamefreak is being weirdly cautious with this ability. Gumshoos was the first to get it - powerful offense but slow and somewhat frail. Now Thievul got it and while it's significantly faster its offenses are middling and it's special movepools is sparse.
Maybe they're faintly aware this ability would be broken on an OU-tier Mon.

Its movepool is sparse, sure. But especially post-DLC a Nasty Plot set with Dark Pulse, Burning Jealousy and either Psychic/Grass Knot/Shadow Ball doesn't seem that bad movepool wise.

Being a special attacker with Stakeout would make a difference. Forcing a switch and getting a prediction right could really hurt the opponent. Attacking from the special side also helps against Cofagrigus. And there’s still Unburden sets. It’s still too early to say for sure but it could work

Think of it as a free +2 to your offensive stat on whatever switches in. Then think about how often people switch in Singles. If it was given to something that wasn't a shitmon, it would be really potent.

Stakeout is a fantastic ability. It doubles damage against anything that switches in, and there's a lot of switching in singles.
It would be amazing on anything other than a shitmon, but it's unfortunately exclusive to shitmons.

Give it a dark type u-turn variant and let stakeout sets run wild

Also give it a speed stat higher than 100, that would be the simplest way to make it a lot more useful while still being a shitmon like it's supposed to be
