>>44069303The new sprites have been in use since at least LGPE and they clearly had SWSH in mind by then because Onix, Chansey, Lickitung, and other Pokémon that were fully evolved in gen 1 but received evolutions later curiously had the little sprites still.
That having been said, I’m going to guess it’s just an oversight like Alola Raichu/Sandslash not getting new sprites
