The jap asked that person to not repost their artwork, but said person only got more aggressive, saying that the original was racist. And basically from there many japs started willingly drawing a lighter Nessa as a sort of "art freedom" protest, and it eventually caught over here as well, with Nessa as the icon of "let people draw characters however they want", which also showcased the hypocrisy of those who complain, because oftentimes you see white or asian characters drawn as black or arab and nobody cares about inaccuracy/erasure there. So yeah, that's why it's Nessa specifically. It's not because muh /pol/ or something, as you can see this isn't done to other characters like Bea or Raihan, it's done to Nessa because this whole "draw characters exactly how I say otherwise I'll steal your art and accuse you of racism!" began with her.
Although yeah, nowadays it's mostly to shitpost, but the basis of it wasn't racism for the sake of racism or "reee black".
